You Can Make it Happen!

* Want more house concerts? * Want more Pick & Sing Potlucks? * Want another Festival? *

The SCFS Boards Needs You to make any or all of the above happen. Let's face it, after more than fifteen years it really is time to get some new blood and new ideas at the leadership of the Sonoma County Folk Society. SCFS has gone through a variety of leadership, starting 'way back when Kate Wolf was singing at the little festival in the Grove. People have come and gone, moved in and out and on, volunteered for a variety of tasks and assumed tremendous responsibilites to keep acoustic folk music alive and well in Sonoma County. Now it is really time for some new blood, with new ideas to come on board and create what ever they would like to see and hear. The current board invites all members who are interested and have suggestions to come to the next meeting in October and talk about your ideas. Call 838-4857 for details, like date and time.

Don Bradley is working with Doug Wilcox to gather information on Folk Music in Sonoma County during the 1960's. 70's and early 80's. We're looking for articles, posters, pictures, audio tapes (reel to reel, cassette, etc), movies, and video tapes. We're trying to put together some videos for the Sonoma County Folk Society Santa Rosa City Limits programs that would document some of the performers, the locations, and events of Folk Music during the 1960's through 1980's. We are getting some good leads, and have surfaced a couple videos of a couple events and some people that indicate they may have some audio tapes. It's a large undertaking, but we feel it's worthwhile to try and document what we can. So if you have something that might help please contact us: Don Bradley sonomadb@sonic.net Doug Wilcox dugneyvon@sonic.net

The Songwriters Showcases of America has begun a new program called Songs For Charity to help raise funds for non profit organizations. The first song being used for the campaign during the month of July is called "Celebrating Independence" to help raise funds for Wounded Warriors Hospital Fund in honor of Independence Day.
Wounded Warriors is a non profit organization that operates in Iraq and financially assist service men and women who are hospitalized from injuries that occurred in the line of duty. The song "Celebrating Independence" is being promoted around the world by email, websites, radio and at many community festivities to help raise money for the cause. As part of the campaign you can listen and download the song for free by going to the SSA's website at www.ssa.cc. SSA's President, Phil Weidner hopes that through the Songs For Charity program many Americans can show their support for US military personnel and can make a donation to Wounded Warriors.
The donations that are collected goes directly to aid military personnel who have been hospitalized in the line of duty. John Folsom, president of Wounded Warriors is a Colonel in the USMCR and is currently stationed in Irag. He along with a small volunteer staff work hand in hand with the hospitals in Iraq, Afghanistan, Germany, and the US.
For further information on the SSA's Songs For Charity Program and Wounded Warriors call 386-947-0997, email showstage@aol.com or go to www.ssa.cc.

The mission of SCFS is to promote and support folk music and folk activites in Sonoma County. SCFC has been in existence since 1976.

Video Pot-Luck & Pickin’ Party
Since many of our members cannot get Santa Rosa Cable 72, a compilation of all previous shows is being created. This sampler will be shown at a special members-only party. Due to difficulty in reserving “our space”, the party will be moved from spring to the fall. See you then!
